Dr. Claire Simeone, DVM

Director of Conservation Medicine, The Marine Mammal Center

Dr. Simeone is the Director of Conservation Medicine with The Marine Mammal Center (Sausalito, CA) and the National Marine Fisheries Service Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program. In addition to providing clinical care to the marine mammals undergoing rehabilitation at The Marine Mammal Center, she also responds to Unusual Mortality Events, provides veterinary support for field projects across the country and works on a variety of domestic and international marine mammal health research projects. Her work helps to provide hands on training opportunities with marine mammals for international veterinarians to enhance surveillance efforts and build human community health. The international conservation programs that Dr. Simeone coordinates not only make a difference for wildlife but also give veterinarians and biologists the opportunity to gain the practical knowledge and skills they need to promote marine conservation in their respective countries. The focus and goals of Dr. Simeone’s work is to build capacity in coastal communities for animal welfare, health monitoring, and conservation worldwide.
